10th Grade Parent

Mrs. Chow’s Honors Chemistry has been an invaluable part of our homeschooling journey. The course offers not only a strong academic foundation for AP Chemistry and community college-level science, but also fosters essential skills such as disciplined study habits, persistence, and independent learning. Both of my children completed the course, and despite having different learning preferences—one thriving in a structured, teacher-led environment and the other preferring a more student-centered approach—they each found the class immensely beneficial. They frequently refer back to the skills and knowledge they gained and felt well-prepared for more advanced coursework.

As a parent, I also appreciated the thoughtful rhythm the class brought to our week. My children would preview the material on the way to class, arriving with a focused mindset. Afterward, we’d discuss the day’s lessons and lab experiences during the drive home. While they were in class, I enjoyed the peaceful surroundings of Mrs. Chow’s farm—complete with farm animals and seasonal organic fruit—which made those afternoons the highlight of my week. During the week, my children turned in assignments Monday through Friday, which kept them progressing steadily and helped build a consistent daily study routine. Mrs. Chow’s chemistry course goes far beyond academics; it nurtures students’ growth in responsibility, confidence, and readiness for college-level science. I highly recommend Mrs. Chow's Honors Chemistry.

Jasmine Chow's chemistry class is the ideal class for a highly motivated student. The weekly lectures, homework, and tests are carefully designed to teach and strengthen understanding of chemistry concepts as well as review past materials. There are no tricks or surprises, but the student will be highly challenged. The class schedule is consistent from week to week, which makes it quite easy to follow. Jasmine always makes sure that her students understand the concepts well and never hesitates to spend time with anyone who needs the extra help. Mrs. Chow is a passionate teacher dedicated to motivate each student to love the journey of learning. She provides a hands-on, interactive, dynamic biology class with vocabulary games, presentations and healthy snacks at her spacious ranch home, equipped with wide screen Apple TV, a huge trampoline and outdoor area to explore. Students earn points for answering questions and asking questions during student-led presentations so as to buy various goodies at the store speriodically. For anyone who is interested in Honors Biology and Honors Chemistry class my daughter took the Chemistry class this past school year and loved it, and is taking the Bio class next year. Jasmine is a very knowledgeable dedicated and caring teacher. She makes the class so fun that my daughter only wants to take science classes from her. It was well worth the commute from San Jose to Gilroy.

Though it has been 2 years since I took Chemistry with Mrs. Chow, I will always cherish what I’ve learned from her class. Of course many different chemistry topics were discussed such as periodic elements, lab procedures, and chemical equilibrium. However, I have adopted positive life-long habits and mindsets from Mrs. Chow’s teaching. She really encourages students to be proactive about their work and to be responsible for assignments. This active mindset is one that I carry with me as I go through college. My son took Mrs Chow's high school chemistry class, and we could not have chosen a better teacher. She started the class by teaching units(length, mass, volume) instead of diving into chemical elements which my son found particularly useful. She was very patient and would explain concepts until my son fully understood it. She would not move on to new material until the previous lesson was fully understood and would meet my son separately to explain concepts. She even gets mom and dad involved to help our son with his studies. She goes over all incorrectly answered assignments and follows up with many extra examples not in the book. I fully recommend Mrs Chow to any high school student beginning to learn chemistry.
